You want to sculpt your abs and have been dieting and exercising consistently. However you still seem to have little deposits of fatty tissues around your body which won’t seem to budge — and this guys, is not an issue that's only exclusive to women. Today, according to Dr Lanzer, the numbers have reached a new high with about a quarter of his patients being men. There is a relatively new technique available now called the tumescent technique which can treat this problem and it has the same recovery as traditional liposuction, risks and overall effects. The main difference between the two is the use of the Vaser third generation ultrasound with tumescent, which makes the most of skin retraction after the procedure.
One main region of concern for men seeking liposuction is overdeveloped breasts as these can often cause embarrassment for both men and boys. The condition called gynecomastia is common but rarely discussed and affects up to an estimated 40-60 per cent of men, of which 2-3 per cent are very serious.
For the majority of these, there is an unknown cause however liposuction may be able to provide relief from gynecomastia. It is also occasionally covered by health insurance too.
Why Is It So Hard To Get Rid Of Persistent Fat?
According to Dr Daniel Lanzer – a renowned Cosmetic Surgeon, the most problematic areas on the body that store persistent fat actually have a function and more specifically, a modern survival mechanism of storing fat in case of emergency. Because of the function of this fat, it can be incredibly hard to get rid of.
The fat deposits with persistent fat are also in areas that can be tricky to exercise, for example the chin. However, many women also encounter common problem areas that can be improved through exercise, such as the upper thighs, hips and butt.
How Can Liposuction Provide A Solution For Problem Areas?
When diet and exercise cannot tackle a certain problem area, it may be worthwhile to consider liposuction. People who are really bothered by a certain problem area and find it affects their self-esteem are more likely to choose liposuction. These people also get the most benefit from the procedure, considering it has some immediate benefits for their self-esteem and confidence.
Liposuction is very effective for problem areas, because the treatment will focus on the area directly. When you exercise, it is quite difficult to target certain areas specifically, while liposuction provides the ability to tackle the problem area.
What Types Of Liposuction Exist?
Liposuction techniques have evolved considerably over the past few years. There are currently three major types of liposuction that are commonly used to tackle problem areas, more specifically tumescent liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction and laser-assisted liposuction.
Tumescent liposuction is performed under local anaesthetic with a cannula (small tube) and anaesthetic solution containing lidocaine and epinephrine. The anaesthetic solution is injected into the target area and prepares the fat so it is easier to remove via suction.
Another common procedure is the ultrasound-assisted liposuction, where the fat is liquefied with ultrasound waves. The ultrasound makes the fat easier to remove and causes less disruption to other body tissues, including muscle and nerves.
The last procedure that is used quite often for problem areas is laser-assisted liposuction. Laser-assisted liposuction is quite similar to the ultrasound-assisted liposuction, because in this case the surgeon will use energy waves to liquefy the fat. Once the fat is ready, the surgeon will remove it through the small tube or cannula that was inserted in the target area.
How Long Does The Recovery Take?
Most people who have liposuction treatment can get back to their daily activities almost immediately. Even though heavy exercise should be avoided for a couple of weeks, patients can usually leave the clinic the very same day of the liposuction treatment. Given the fact that most procedures are now executed under local anaesthetic, liposuction treatment requires a lot less recovery time.
Before you consider a liposuction treatment, it is advised to try to tackle the problem area with a balanced diet and exercise. Patients should also stop smoking well before the liposuction takes place and maintain a healthy lifestyle after the liposuction treatment to maintain the results they have obtained.
